Last week, I graduated from the Public Affairs Communications Strategy Qualifications Course (PACSQ) at the Defense Information School (DINFOS). The PACSQ course is an advanced training program that equips military communicators with the tools to lead, brief, and execute strategic messaging across the Department of Defense.

Held at Fort Meade, Maryland, this course was a deep dive into the “why” behind every mission message. We trained in high-pressure writing, audience targeting, and executive-level communications planning. The biggest takeaway, however, was that effective communication starts with clarity of purpose. That’s a principle I carry directly into every session at Austen Hunter Photography.
When clients come to me for a headshot, a military portrait, or a branding image, I don’t just start shooting. I start by listening. I want to understand where you’re headed, who needs to see you, and how your image needs to perform. Only then do I recommend a service or start crafting the visual approach, so that what we create together works for you, not just looks good.

That’s what separates Austen Hunter from most photographers: the strategic mindset behind the camera. DINFOS sharpened that mindset, but it’s always been at the core of how I operate. Every image should serve a mission; and I’m here to help you define it, then capture it with clarity and purpose.
If you’re preparing for a career shift, a promotion, or simply want your image to reflect who you are at your best, I offer corporate and professional headshots and military portraits that go deeper than surface-level polish. Let’s capture your story with intention.
